When most women become pregnant, one of the first adjustments they make is their diet. There is an old saying that pregnant women eat two for more than nine months. However, a new study commissioned by researchers at the University of Auckland, proves that "eating for two" is actually an error that leads to excessive weight gain.
Eating too much and get an unhealthy amount of weight actually puts the health of mother and child at risk. The extra weight can increase the probability of the birth of a baby will require a caesarean section, and can also be the cause of diabetes associated with pregnancy. As the mother gaining extra weight so as the baby, which makes the work more difficult.
The research team at the University of Auckland says there is not need a woman to eat a normal consumption during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. During pregnancy, a healthy amount of weight gain is about 11 to 16 kg - and requires less food than most people expect. The researchers say that adding an extra slice of bread or eat a few extra apples every day is a sufficient amount of extra food.
The Auckland team hopes the results will reduce the number of pregnant women who gain too much weight - eating for two does not need to eat a ton.
