The streets of Toronto were packed with riders throughout the weekend that all recorded to run in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. More than 25 000 runners from about 60 countries took to the streets of the largest city in Canada to raise money for a number of charities.
The primary sponsors of the Marathon Charity Challenge were Scotiabank, the fundraising component of Scotiabank. According to organizers, the race has raised over $ 3.2 million that will be delivered to more than 180 charities.
charities named in the statements of the Charity Challenge include Autism Services Dog, Engineers Without Borders, and St. Christopher House with dozens of other organizations - including those that support research on treatments potential for cancers, such as cord blood stem cell therapy.
The Marathon also resulted in significant achievements for a number of selected riders. Two Toronto broke the previous Guinness Book of World Records titles, and another successfully completed his 300th marathon runner on the weekend.
